Education for All
Haiti has 8.2 million inhabitants and 60% of the population is under the age of 18, however, 55% of the people in Haiti do not how to read and write. Fondasyon Mapou is embarking upon an "Education for All" Campaign to ensure that no parents ever have to choose which one of their children get to go school at the beginning of the school year, nor should any child have to cope with the option of not going to school. Fodansyon Mapou will work with parents, teachers, students, local community leaders, elected official, the religious communities, and those who oversee the education system to move Haiti under the grip of "illiteratism." FondMapou will work with the Haitian Diaspora and the international community to rebuild Haiti’s education system. FondMapou seeks to establish a vigorous literacy campaign that can reduce Haiti's illiteracy rate from 55% to 15% in 20 years. FondMapou encourages and promotes literacy throughout rural Haiti. FondMapou is dedicated to raising awareness among members of the international community about the educational needs in Haiti through conferences, panel discussions, workshops and community gatherings.
In addition, FondMapou will creates classes that teach people techniques in marketing, micro credits, farming, cabinetmaking, carpenter, typing, seamstress, arts and crafts, plumbing, electricity, mason, tailor and so forth. Individuals who participate in this program would learn how to read and write while building upon their existing skills and knowledge. FondMapou will provide computer literacy training that give individuals the opportunity to pursue better living wage and communicate with rest of the world. FondMapou will consistently work to improve the quality of education to enable marginalized young Haitians to become full participants in the development and progress of Haiti.
